Our Gala in downtown Salt Lake City is our biggest annual fundraiser.  Not only do you get to donate with the purchase of your table, it is a great opportunity to introduce your friends to micro finance, and to Mentors International. Why do we mentor? Many people are starting to realize the key feature that sets us apart from the micro finance competition: Mentoring.

1) A micro loan helps a family start a small enterprise, increase their income, and take steps to leave poverty.

2) Enterprise mentoring helps an enterprise grow, hire employees, and produce even more product and service.

Mentoring allows us to double the benefit of every micro loan we offer by helping the families of those employed by our clients as well as the clients themselves.  One enterprise can potentially help a whole community combat poverty by employing community members, and providing goods and services.

enjoy helping others, enjoy working with an amazing staff (not that we’re bias or anything), have an interest in humanitarian work and/or microcredit, like to learn, love all things international, have a killer work ethic & are self-motivated!

You’re Qualified for this Internship if You…

are creative, have excellent writing skills, are proficient with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, & Blogging, are cool with doing gopher tasks from time to time like research and data entry, have excellent ideas for what makes good reading or watching material (for a blog or YouTube video), are willing to make phone calls when needed, have some technology savvy, are willing to have your to-do list change on a daily basis, can take a joke, have fun, and work well with people, don’t mind interning for a GREAT cause for free (this is a non-paid internship), and most of all have a deep & driving passion for service & helping others!

“Vulnerability is the risk of falling into poverty in the future, even if the person is not necessarily poor now. Vulnerability is often associated with the effects of “shocks” such as a drought, a drop in farm prices, or a financial crisis. Vulnerability is a key dimension of well-being since it affects individuals’ behavior in terms of investment, production patterns, and coping strategies, and in terms of the perceptions of their own situations.” -World Bank

Everyone has a certain vulnerability level depending on their family life, the country they live in, or their social settings.

Lack of education prevents people from progressing. When children are born into this cycle and parents can’t afford to send them to school, the poverty cycle is perpetuated.

Here at Mentors we have found a way to help those who are vulnerable to the poverty cycle by combining mentoring and micro-loans.

Your donation funds small loans for the very poor in developing countries.

The recipient of the loan receives job training and an education which in turn builds a business that creates jobs.

The loan is then paid back to Mentors to help fund new loans.
